Analysis of the fertility level of Bedadung river Jember: Literature study through primary productivity measurement

This study aims to determine the primary productivity of plankton in Bedadung River, Jember, by measuring dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in the water. The research was conducted on April 13, 2025 in the morning at 07.00-11.30. The method used was passive sampling, which is water sampling at the water surface and 1 meter depth. DO levels were measured using a DO meter, and the results were analyzed to determine the primary productivity of plankton. The study found that DO levels varied depending on the time of day, with higher levels during the day due to photosynthesis and lower levels at night due to respiration. The results also showed that plankton primary productivity was highest during the day and lowest at night, indicating the importance of sunlight in supporting the growth of aquatic organisms. This study concludes that the primary productivity of plankton in the Bedadung River is influenced by sunlight availability, and this information can be used to better understand river ecology and to inform management decisions related to water quality and aquatic ecosystem health.
